Slippery Rock University (SRU) has been awarded a grant though the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Grant #95303801 EPA P2 (Pollution Prevention). This program funds grants/cooperative agreements that implement pollution prevention technical assistance services and/or training for businesses and support projects that utilize pollution prevention techniques to reduce and/or eliminate pollution from air, water and/or land. The P2 Program has established three (3) P2 National Emphasis Areas (NEAs) to give the program a more centralized focus and direction that will result in a more impactful, measurable results.
The SRU P2 program award focuses on reducing or eliminating pollutants from entering any waste stream which would otherwise be released into the environment prior to recycling, treatment, or disposal. Specifically, the project work will focus on minimizing pollution from manufacturers by providing free industrial assessments for eight (8) manufacturing plants. These assessments will result in a report with recommendations for reducing or eliminating pollutants from being released into a waste stream. The P2 technical assistance prioritizes information, training, and tools to align with the NEAs. Specific project activities which will benefit the P2 NEA of Food and Beverage Manufacturing, in areas such as reporting and sharing of case histories and information on pollution prevention best practices are replicated to market this program. SRU as the grantee will provide technical assistance which will benefit these facilities and may address underserved communities.
Contractors for consulting services specific to sustainability and chemical treatment are being solicited to support the mission of this grant.
